Horse With No Name
The following is an excerpt from that same 1972 live performance, this one of the America song, Horse With No Name. I play a clean lead here, fairly brisk. Rick Armstrong on lead vocal.
Oye Como Va
I couldn't find a recording of me doing Black Magic woman (which we did at this same 1972 performance), but here's a piece of Oye Como Va.
This is a 1971 recording of a different band than the clips above. Dog Canyon band covers the CSN song, Ohio, in 1971, playing at the band practice house, using a Sony reel to reel to record most of the instrumentation simultaneously on one track, then the vocals and any remaining instruments on the second track (hence, it sounds live, being more or less the same performance we were doing in local venues like military clubs, night clubs, high school dances, frat parties, whatever came along). Dalton Bentley on lead guitar, vocals; Bill Welsh, lead vocal and organ; Dana Collins, bass and vocals; Greg Perry, drums. I was using a variety of equipment on this song, i.e., a Fender Jazzmaster guitar, a Custom amp head (like the kind Credence Clearwater used) driving a white bandmaster box with a 15 inch JBL speaker and an external Altec PA horn, a Vox Tonebender fuzzbox and wah-wah pedal....so I get some outraged, shall I say, guitar sounds at times on this recording.
