The Wind

Dalton and Cheri c. 1972
My late wife, Cheri, had written a song about me, “The Wind,” (copyright Cheri Bentley 1974 - 2014) back in 1974 or so when we were dating. I was young and immature at the time and was indeed like the wind, blowing in and out of her life, as well as the life of others as I searched for myself. I persuaded her to sing it for me in 2012, to a guitar accompaniment. I never liked the way the original chords and my guitar rhythm supported (or did not support) her vocal, so re-visited the song in late 2012, composing piano, bass, flute, conga and cabasa parts which I recorded using a MIDI key editor and a DAW (digital audio workstation) which included a VST (Virtual Studio Technology, i.e., software emulation of an instrument) drum machine, VST bass instrument and GM (general MIDI) sound module (which sounds incredibly good as it uses sampled waveforms of the actual instruments rather than hardware emulation). I made use of Cheri’s previous vocal tracks. The mp3 of this is downloadable above. It's really a preliminary recording, but may remain this way (as of January 2014).
